Ghosts and Where They Lay
Ghosts and Where They Lay (2020)
Story, direction, editing, and sound design by: chloē noelle fourte
Ghosts and Where They Lay is likely the quietest film released in OTV’s first five years.
It isn’t a silent film, but its score consists only of birds chirping as if at doom.
We see a cascade of images, braided together by the melancholic, perhaps haunting images of what appears to be the body of a woman or femme in a messy living room.
We see children playing together, and then adults playing together in parks, outdoors, by the lake and in the alley.
From the title and the vibe, we can see that Ghosts is a meditation on loss. A poem to love that show show fleeting and elusive it can be as time passes and our memory fades. Many images are out of focus or people are filmed close up without full view of their person.
How do we hold on to the memory of those who have loved us?
We get quiet–and listen.
